Nilam has now been blamed for 11 deaths in the past several days as it continues to push across India bringing heavy rains over 500-600mm in the past 5 days, in the past 24hrs alone some areas have seen up to 170mm of heavy rainfall. As the storm continues to linger expect the conditions to prevail in the region in to the weekend before gradually winding down as the low begins to fill and stops pulling moisture from the warm waters surrounding the country.
In East Asia little activity is currently occurring as the tropics remain quite. Japan though is seeing a potent polar low kicking up winds to 99kph in Ishikawa prefecture today. Up to 15cm of snow is expected in Hokkiodo while rain totals could top 100mm in the next 24hrs as this storm system continues to push over head.
Much of the rest of East Asia once again remains dry. Dry but cold, Hong Kong is seeing the coldest temperatures thus far this Autumn today.
