Here is our latest Video Update on Tropical Storm Jelawat, the new Tropical Storm Maliksi, and a developing disturbance in the South China Sea.
Tropical Storm Jelawat is now moving near Kuril and Kamchatka away from Japan. It will complete extra-tropical transition in the next few hours and is no longer a threat to land.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Maliksi continues to consolidate as it moves across the northern portions of the Marianas Islands (north of Saipan). It will take its time intensifying and could become a Typhoon as we head into the latter part of the week. It is forecast to move west of the Ogasawara Islands (Iwo To) by Wednesday and recurve to the northeast, south of Honshu by Friday.
Finally, we continue to watch Invest 95W as it develops over the South China Sea/West Philippine Sea. This system could become a Tropical Storm in the next 1 to 2 days. The forecast, however, is still unclear as the system continues to meander in this region.
