Severe Floods in Northern Thailand cause reservoirs to overflow and houses to submerge

Thailand has been subject to another shot of intense rainfall, the Thailand Meteorological Department has issued Numerous Thunderstorm warnings this past week specifically aimed for the Northern Portions of the country.

Now after a marathon of thunderstorms this week Phayao province in the northern portions of the country has come under a deluge of rainfall. Some areas of the region acquiring over one meter of rainfall.

This in return has caused numerous homes to be submerged in the rising waters.  A few reservoirs used to irrigate the Mekong, Chi and rivers were forced to release the stress are there dams as water levels quickly rose to critical levels after intense short time heavy rains.

With the South West Monsoon still in full force across South East Asia expect this heavy downpours through the remainder of the week, some causing yet more flooding, not just in Thailand but also across Malaysia ( See Francis Flood Update for Kuala Lumpur ) and the Philippines as well.

The good news though is that the flooding currently taking in place in Thailand will not be remotely on the scale of last years epic floods that submerged a large portion of the country.
